What is Reiki

Reiki is a non evasive technique used for stress reduction developed in Japan by Dr.Mikao Usui. Born in 1865 Usui was inspired by ancient study and spiritual teachings rooted in Tendai Buddhism and Shintoism. He developed this healing system after setting out to understand the question of peace and life.

The word Reiki is from two Japanese words, Rei which means God’s Wisdom or Higher Power and Ki which is the Life Force Energy therefore Reiki is Spiritually guided life force energy

How does it work

Reiki is administered by a number of non-intrusive hand positions over the body. The recipient will lay comfortably on a therapists couch, fully clothed; or alternatively on a chair if they are not able to lie flat. The recipient may experience a warmth, energy, deep relaxation or feelings of peace and well being. The treatment treats the whole person, and is a very safe and simple method of spiritual healing. Reiki can be used to heal physical, emotional, spiritual and mental issues, it will seek to find and heal the cause of the problem, not the symptom.

Reiki is not a religious belief and therefore is available to everyone; it has been successfully taught and practiced for many years.

Finding a Healer

When looking for a Reiki Healer you must look for someone who you will feel comfortable with. You should look for someone qualified to at least Reiki Second Degree as this is a practitioner level; it is important that they practice regularly including on themselves as Reiki increases in power with use. The Reiki practitioner cannot give you any diagnosis for your symptoms, so if you are concerned you should see your GP.

Before booking a session talk to the practitioner, get a feel for them as a person, ask about their qualifications, who they were taught by and how and why they chose Reiki. Ask them about their business; who they treat and if they specialise in any particular area/condition for example as this is sometimes the case. You should trust your intuition and gut feelings about this person, but if you are not sure, try someone else.

What To Expect

When you arrive for your treatment for the first time, you should be asked a series of questions about your health and why you would like a Reiki Healing. The practitioner should explain exactly how they will conduct your healing and tell you a bit about how you may feel and what you may experience.

At each treatment your progress will be reviewed and lifestyle changes or self help techniques may be suggested. After care advice should always be given. A sense of relaxation and well being is usually experienced after just one session however, a series of treatments may be needed to maintain long term benefits and to make significant changes, especially if the condition chronic. Reiki may bring emotions to the surface as part of the healing; you may experience headaches or flu like symptoms for a day or two afterwards before starting to feel the benefits of the treatment. This is quite normal.

A practitioner may recommend up to 5 sessions initially and maybe 1 week apart, but again this is totally dependant on each individual and circumstance; it may be less or more. Most consultations will last around 1 hour. Reiki treatments can cost between £30 – £50 per session.

What is Reflexology

Reflexology is the practice of applying pressure to certain reflex areas of the feet and hands, although most commonly it is the feet that are treated. Reflexology is a form of complementary medicine and has been used in a form for thousands of years. The Feet have reflex areas which correspond to parts of the body. These areas act as a type of map reflecting the body, with the left foot corresponding to the left hand side of the body and the right foot corresponding to the right hand side of the body.

Reflexology does not claim to cure all disorders but it does have many benefits and can certainly treat in conjuction with standard medicine a whole range of conditions including digestive problems and stress for example.

Research has shown that the specific techniques of reflexology are effective and beneficial in many ways, it can create relaxation from the moment the reflexologist starts to work and it has been shown through various studies that reflexology can reduce depression and anxiety; generally reflexology aids the reduction of stress because the hands and feet help set the tension levels for the body.

What to expect at your treatment

A Reflexology treatment will generally last around 45 minutes. On your first consultation the reflexologist will take a detailed medical history and will normally examine your feet before starting. Reflexology itself involves the reflexologist massaging areas of the feet normally using the side and end of their thumb. Both feet will be massaged and all the reflex areas covered. There maybe some areas that feel tender or uncomfortable when massaged, this is because the corresponding part of the body is out of balance. These stress indicators allow the reflexologist to target certain areas and to design an amount of pressure appropriate to provide relaxation specific to each individual. By the end of your treatment you should feel calm and relaxed.

Emotional Freedom Technique

Work related stress, depression, relationship problems and anxieties all affect our mental and physical health. These negative emotions block the flow of energy through the body and have a detrimental effect on our health and well-being.

E.F.T is a powerful new method based on the discovery that emotional trauma contributes greatly to disease. Scientific studies have shown that E.F.T can rapidly reduce the emotional impact of memories and incidents that trigger emotional distress. When the distress is reduced or removed, the body can often rebalance itself and the healing process is accelerated. E.F.T is a gentle tapping technique (using the fingertips). Certain Meridian points on the face and body are gently tapped on with the fingertips and are combined with verbalizing the identified problem followed by a general affirmation phrase.

The benefits include:

Non-invasive (client remains fully clothed)

Rapid results

Provides solutions to traumatized patients wanting relief from anxiety and it’s effects without having to talk about or relive the trauma

Stress free and painless

Often works where all else has failed

Matrix Reimprinting using E.F.T

Helps you quickly release your emotional issues and helps you gain control over your life. It gives you massive insights into what’s been holding you back, and helps you to get resolution on your blocks and move forward. And what if you could learn a way to actually rewrite your past memories? Can you imagine how free you would feel if you were able to finally let go and move on.

The benefits include:

Releases your emotional issues

Rewrite your past

Change your negative beliefs

Resolve traumatic memories

Transform weight issues – fears – phobias – health challenges – self esteem and confidence issues.

Please note: Whilst E.F.T & Matrix Reimprinting has produced remarkable clinical results – these treatments do not replace a Doctor’s advice and clients must take complete responsibility regarding their use of these therapies.

Aromatherapy is an ancient therapeutic treatment that enhances well being, relieves stress and helps in the rejuvenation and regeneration of the human body. It has been used throughout history in the traditional medical practices of the world’s greatest civilisations. Nowadays, Aromatherapy is widely accepted by orthodox and complementary practitioners as one of the most comprehensive of the natural therapies.

Aromatherapy oils are pure essences extracted or distilled from plants. Flowers, leaves, roots, resins, seeds and fruits of many herbs, shrubs and trees are used to provide aromatic oils, each with their own unique healing properties. Some oils are used for their balancing effects on the nervous and hormonal systems, some for their ability to improve the function of bodily systems. Many oils have a powerful antiseptic action, while others act as natural painkillers. Rosemary essential oil has a stimulating effect; Lavender is used for its ability to calm and sedate.

Aromatherapy can be defined as the systematic use ofessential oils in holistic treatments to help to improve physical and emotional well-being.

History

The use of aromaticoils dates back as far as 3000 BC when the Egyptians extracted oils by a methodof infusion. These extracts were used in various ways: for religious ceremonies , cosmetics, food preservation and for mummification. From China, India and Egypt the art of aromatherapy spread to Ancient Greek and Rome where the oils were used in daily baths and massage. The earliest written record of the use of aromatic oils in Europe was in the thirteenth century. In 1652 Nicholas Culpepper wrote A Book of Herbs which described the medicinalproperties of hundreds of herbs.

During the 1920s A French chemist called Gatte Fosse began to study the therapeutic properties of essential oils. He discovered the healing powers of lavender by accident when he burnt his arm during an experiment in the laboratory.Dr Jean Valnet used essential oils to treat burns and battle injuries, in the absence of medical supplies.

In the 1950s aromatherapy was reintroduced into Britain by Marguerite Maury, who was a student of Gatte Fosse who developed specialised aromatherapy massage techniques and proposed the holistic approach of an ‘individual prescription to select and blend oils to suit the individual needs of the client.

How Aromatherapy Works

Aromatherapy is thetherapeutic use of plant-derived aromatic essential oils to promote and maintain physical, emotional and spiritual well-being. The essential oils can be diluted in a carrier oil and applied to the body in the form of massage.

The Benefits Include:

Stimulates the body’s natural immune system

Induces relaxation

Promotes a general state of well-being

Improved sleep pattern

Enhances lymphatic drainage

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing developed thousands of years ago in China, but although it originated in China it has been used widely throughout many Asian countries. The aim of Acupuncture is to restore the qi (pronounced Chee) which is the Universal Life Energy that circulates throughout the body via the painless application of fine needles in certain pressure points across the body.

Qi is made up of Ying and Yang and although opposite these forces are complementary and need to balance to keep a clear and healthy flow of energy through the body. If the qi becomes blocked it can result in physical and emotional ill-health.

An imbalance in the body can result from emotional responses to anger, fear and grief for example. To restore the balance of the qi the acupuncturist will stimulate the acupuncture points that are specific to you to counteract the imbalance.

Initially, you will find that you may start on an intensive treatment of once a week and the treatment will be designed to address how the grief shows up for you, whether it is not sleeping, avoiding contact from the outside world, loss of appetite the treatment will focus on the process of coming back to life.

Many years ago people would be more sceptical with regards to acupuncture and its benefits however, today it is a common treatment and best used in conjunction with medicines prescribed by your physician. It does complement Western medicine to aid healing faster. Acupuncture is now highly regarded and encouraged throughout the world as a benefit for your overall well being.
